I wasn't so keen on the orphan part you understand, but I loved her early feminist spirit, such as it was, and her determination to be better at everything than her arch-rival and true love Gilbert Blythe.
So I've realised that when thinking about the wedding - or more specifically the dress - I've had this (admittedly corny) passage in the back of my head:
Gilbert had a sudden vision of Anne, arrayed in a frilly green gown, with the virginal curves of arms and throat slipping out of it, and white stars shining against the coils of her ruddy hair. The vision made him catch his breath. But he turned lightly away.*
Now I know Stephanie Meyer has hijacked Anne's outfits for Bella's wedding dress in the Twilight books (although a character less like Anne I can't imagine).
But I think what I'm looking for might be an Anne Shirley-esque affair of organza and tulle and other fabrics I'm pretty sure I couldn't identify even if they were under my nose.
Although not in green, of course...
*For those who've never read Anne of the Island, that makes it sound like a dodgy romance, when in reality what you're reading there is the last stage in the three book will-Anne-ever-get-it-together-with-Gilbert saga, and frankly, Gilbert catching his breath is about as explicit as it gets, so cut us some slack, okay?
